Kansas Celebrates 2019 MFG DAY

Kansas Celebrates 2019 MFG DAY

"The manufacturing industry is a very important part of our state's economy," said Alan Cobb, President and CEO of the Kansas Chamber. "Manufacturing Day or MFG DAY highlights companies that create local jobs and are great representatives for Kansas nationally and internationally. It lets us address common misconceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is - and what it isn't."

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly recently signed a proclamation declaring October 4th as "National Manufacturing Day" in the Sunflower State.

There are more than 2,500 manufacturers in Kansas, employing 164,950 people and producing nearly $25.5 billion in output annually. Manufacturing helps drive the state's economy with more than $9.49 billion in annual manufactured good exports to markets such as Canada, Mexico, Japan, United Kingdom, and Germany.

"MFG DAY allows manufacturers and educational organizations to share stories and help the public realize how important the manufacturing industry is to our economy," said Tiffany Stovall, CEO of Kansas Manufacturing Solutions. "Students, parents, and educators leave their manufacturing day experiences with a new understanding that jobs in manufacturing are not all dark, dirty, dangerous, and low paying. There is a vast array of rewarding manufacturing career options."

The manufacturing industry includes aviation, biosciences, chemical products, computer and electronic components, energy, fabricated metal products, food and beverage products, machinery, motor vehicles and parts, petroleum, plastics and rubber products, printing, transportation equipment, and many other products.

Companies and communities around the state will offer tours and events throughout October in celebration of MFG DAY. Click here to learn about MFG Day events in Kansas.
