Westar Energy and Girl Scouts hosting sixth annual Spark Event
On Tuesday, April 30 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Westar Energy’s Professional Development Center, 801 NE US Highway 24 in Topeka, Kansas. The event will bring about 25 girls together with Westar’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) professionals in their workspaces.
“Westar’s Spark Event inspires girls to dream big when thinking about their future,” said Kim Konecny, Talent Acquisition Supervisor. “It also shines a light on our commitment to engaging, recruiting and retaining women in STEM careers.”
The event will kick off with an overview of Westar Energy and its STEM education initiatives. Following the introduction, Westar employee volunteers will demonstrate how they use science, technology, engineering and math in their typical workday. The Girl Scouts will break into activity stations where they will build transmission towers with straws and gumdrops, create a wetland in a cup and more.
