What inspires you?

Mankind’s amazing spirit to strive for a better world for communities, for society, and for future generations. I am inspired by ordinary people taking steps that go above and beyond to make a difference!

What advice do you have for others?

Take care of yourself!!! I know this is a common theme we often hear, however if you are working in the world of social work advocacy, or really any other profession, this becomes a lifesaving skill. Embrace those activities and relationships that support and sustain you. Strive to maintain balance in your professional and personal life. Keep laughing! Remember others (friends, co-workers, and daughters) are watching and are influenced by your example.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned on your journey?

I am very fortunate to be blessed with a wonderful circle of family and friends who have supported and encouraged me throughout my life. As I look back in time, it has always been the connections of those relationships that carried me through the ever changing landscape of my life. I look forward to what lies ahead knowing family and friends are along for the ride with me.

What does your vision for our community look like?

My vision for our community is one in which our focus is on improving the lives of all our citizens. This begins when our community leaders set the stage for an honest dialogue about the magnitude of social, economic, and racial injustices that impact the citizens of our community. Strive to create a space where diversity is valued; differing viewpoints can be shared without division; and real time changes are detailed and actionable. Don’t forget to bring to the table the invisible ones and those whose voices have not been heard. Bring to the table those who hold positions of power to enact those changes. Build a constituency to sustain ongoing dialogue and accountability each step of the way. Celebrate achievements! Re-examine missteps and failures. Regroup and carry on. Stopping is not an option.

What does "Equal - Powerful - Unstoppable" mean to you?

As women our strength comes from a foundation built on equality for all, celebration of diversity, and the power of action. As women our collective voice speaks to the injustices that impact all women and calls for action and change. Simply stated, there are no limits to what is obtainable when we work together for all women.
