Downtown Topeka Launches Holiday Window-Decorating Contest
Downtown Topeka Inc. announced the launch of its second annual Miracle on Kansas Avenue holiday window-decorating contest. Participating downtown businesses are eligible to win a $500 grand prize. The winning entry will also receive a trophy and be featured in an article shared by the Greater Topeka Partnership and Downtown Topeka.
“Last year, over 30 downtown businesses participated in our holiday competition,” said Rhiannon Friedman, president of Downtown Topeka Inc. “I am excited to see this event return for 2021. This is a great way to see the creativity of our local entrepreneurs on display and to celebrate the holiday season by strolling downtown and enjoying the decorations.”
A winner will be selected by community members, who may text in their vote for best window display. The number to text will be displayed by participating businesses. The contest begins Dec. 1 and will continue through Dec. 21, when a winner will be announced. Those wishing to participate may email Stephanie Norwood, the Greater Topeka Partnership’s director of events, at stephanie.wilhelm@topekapartnership.com.
Non-downtown businesses and community groups are also eligible to participate by reserving window space in a downtown vacant storefront. Those interested should contact Stephanie Norwood.
“This competition is a great way for downtown businesses to engage their customers and encourage retail traffic,” Norwood said. “Last year, we had hundreds of people cast votes for their favorite holiday windows, and many displays were shared through social media sites online. If you are looking for a great way to promote your business, and possibly win $500, I encourage you to register for the competition.”
