What three hashtags best describe you?
#ListenUnderstand Active and engaged listening is becoming a lost skill in our society. In many ways, we are wired to jump in and offer solutions when someone comes to us to share a challenge or problem. Set aside that impulse to respond immediately and simply be present with that person, in that moment.
#DadLife My wife and I have two awesome kiddos. Each day they make us smile and help us remember the joys of the moment.
#PeopleOverProcess It is easy to get stuck in the processes and policies of our daily lives. I try to remember that people matter most. The time we invest in relationships and connections has many more positive returns than the trappings of processes.
What do you wish someone had told you long ago?
“Perfection is the enemy of progress.” I believe that quote is attributed to Winston Churchill. Some great ideas get tabled with the notion that they are not perfect yet. How many things are actually perfect? How much progress could your good idea make while you perpetually wait to launch a perfect idea? Share your good ideas with friends and colleagues and make magic happen.
What brings you joy?
As a student success professional at Washburn University, I have the privilege of working with college students on a daily basis, both in and out of the classroom. For me, there are few things better than seeing a student recognize their potential and then go out and make a difference for the causes that drive them.
