Stormont Vail Birthplace receives Blue Distinction Center+ Designation

Stormont Vail Birthplace receives Blue Distinction Center+ Designation

The Stormont Vail Birthplace recently received the Blue Distinction Center+ designation for maternity care from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. This designation is part of the national Blue Distinction Specialty Care program that recognizes hospitals for providing quality and affordable care.

“Our team is committed to providing high-quality care to expectant mothers in a compassionate and affordable way,” said Alison Wilson, administrative director, Mother and Child Services. “When expectant moms choose Stormont Vail to have a baby, they can be certain that mom and baby will receive the best care possible both before the baby is born and long after.”

Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures developed with input from the medical community. The Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care program evaluates hospitals on quality measures for vaginal and cesarean delivery.

To receive a Blue Distinction Centers+ designation, a hospital must meet the same quality criteria as Blue Distinction Centers while also meeting requirements for cost efficiency.

“Mothers can take important classes prenatally to help them prepare for their new baby to join their family,” said Wilson. “After their baby has arrived, they can receive continued support and care for both baby and mom at the Stormont Vail Breastfeeding Center.”

The Birthplace offers a full range of prenatal, sibling and infant care programs during and after the pregnancy. A triage nurse is available 24/7 to answer any concerns mothers may have. The labor, delivery and recovery suites are designed to make moms feel like they’re at home. Each suite features a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, a television and a comfortable chair that folds out into a bed so a support person can stay in the room.

The Birthplace providers and team members work with moms and their labor plans to help have the birthing experience that they have planned. Offering aids that many moms prefer, such as whirlpool tubs to help ease labor pains, squatting bars, birthing balls and birthing stools.
