CASA of Shawnee County Receives Generous Donation From Capitol Federal
The mission of CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocates - of Shawnee County is to utilize volunteers to advocate for the best interest of children and youth involved in the court system. At a time when not-for-profit agencies are being asked to do more with less, employees of Capitol Federal, in partnership with Capitol Federal Foundation, stepped up to provide abused and neglected children with toys, blankets, and hygiene products in addition to financial support totaling $6,952.66.
“The funds will help recruit additional volunteers so that we can reach more children in need of a CASA. Our volunteers have the privilege and opportunity to speak up for the best interest of these children as they navigate the legal and foster care systems,” said executive director, Denise Stevens.
As of June 2021, 6,845 Kansas youth are in foster care, 692 of which are Shawnee County residents. “The need is great, but so is the community support. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with Capitol Federal as well as any other organizations or businesses interested in supporting Shawnee County kids,” said Keegan McElroy, CASA Board President.
