Stormont Vail Welcomes Dr. Boma Ugwu

Stormont Vail Welcomes Dr. Boma Ugwu

Stormont Vail Health is proud to announce that Boma Ugwu, M.D., has joined their team to practice as a psychiatrist, located at 1133 College Ave., Suite E-110 Manhattan, KS 66502.

Dr. Ugwu grew up in a family that was integrated in the health care field. She had the privilege of spending time with them while they worked in the hospital. Dr. Ugwu became convinced that she wanted to become a doctor and care for patients just like her uncle.

“As a teenager, I remember talking to one of the doctors in the hospital, and asking, ‘how do I get to do what you’re doing?’” Dr. Ugwu recalled. “He just said, ‘if you have the compassion, if you have the skill, just work hard and you’ll be here.’”

That’s where Dr. Ugwu’s passion for excellent patient care came from.

“When I see my patients get well and say ‘we talked about that, and that’s what I applied in that situation.’ When my patients tell me that, it makes me realize that maybe I am making a difference in their lives.”

Dr. Ugwu has called Kansas her home away from home for many years. She is excited to be in Manhattan as the new clinic opens and to be with her family exploring all the area has to offer.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming patients into the clinic and I’m excited to do what I enjoy, which is caring for patients.”

Dr. Ugwu completed her Psychiatry residency at the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine in Wichita. Dr. Ugwu was named the KUMC Wichita Psychiatry Residency In-Training Examination Champion (PRITE), she was also awarded for her Excellence in both Outpatient and Inpatient Care and was given the KUMC Resident Award for Going Extra Mile (G.E.M.).
