Kansas Book Festival author speaking at Topeka Collegiate on Friday

In conjunction with the Kansas Book Festival (to be held at Washburn University) on Saturday, September 24, Topeka Collegiate will host one of the event’s featured authors, Mr. Jimmy Beason, on our campus on Friday, September 23.

Mr. Beason will share three presentations with the students and staff, in an effort to bring important historical and cultural understanding into our classrooms. He will discuss a book he authored, Native Americans in History during a series of presentations between 8:45-10:30 AM.

Mr. Beason is a member of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, from the Eagle Clan. He works as a professor in the Indigenous and American Indian Studies Department at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. His book, Native Americans in History, brings Native American history to life for children and young adults. The legacy and influence of native achievers is brought to life in wonderful illustration and impressive detail. In addition to this book, he also writes nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and essays about contemporary native issues.
