Silver Lake Bank announces retirement and staff additions

Silver Lake Bank is pleased to announce a few staff changes upon the pending retirement of one of its longtime loan officers.

Senior Vice President Don Hamilton will retire from Silver Lake Bank after completing 32 years of service, primarily as a loan officer, with Silver Lake Bank. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Finance and began his career in agriculture lending shortly thereafter.

A public retirement reception is planned for 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Blacksmith Event Centre, 101 Railroad St., Silver Lake KS.

Hamilton is being succeeded by longtime loan officer, Mark Metzler, Assistant Vice President, Loan Officer. He graduated from Kansas State University in Agriculture. He has been serving Kansas communities as a banker for more than 30 years and joined Silver Lake Bank in September.

“We are a solutions-oriented customer-centric team, committed to going the extra mile for our customers. Both Don and Mark are the epitome of those principles,” said Patrick Gideon, President, and CEO of the 114-year-old family-owned Silver Lake Bank. “We will miss Don and wish him well in his retirement.”

The bank’s newest location, a loan production office, in Overland Park recently was granted branch status, which means it soon will be able to accept customer deposits onsite.

In addition, the bank announced two additions to its team.

Kelly Loneker, a Lawrence native, joined SLB as Regional Business Development Associate. Her development efforts focus on the Lawrence and Kansas City area. She is a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Exercise Science. She has extensive sales and sales management experience in several business industries.

Joel Geels joined the bank in 2022 as Teller Supervisor/Customer Service Representative with the Gage Branch. The Topeka native graduated from Shawnee Heights High School and enjoyed finance classes at Washburn University prior to serving in a variety of roles with 3 financial institutions.

“Kelly and Joel are great additions to our teams,” said Gideon. “Kelly knows Lawrence and the Overland Park areas well and will be a great advocate for them as she enthusiastically assists them with establishing accounts with the bank that exceed their expectations on service and scope. Joel brings great customer service and a positive can-do attitude to the bank every day that matches our bank’s culture and our customers’ expectations.”
