With private support, Washburn University is building the McVicar House at 1709 S.W. MacVicar Ave. directly across the street from the campus. Located on a full-acre lot with mature trees, the two-story estate will provide President JuliAnn Mazachek and future presidents a residence within walking distance of the campus. The home will enable them to entertain students, staff, donors and alumni in a comfortable, convenient setting with close parking lots.

Local matters when it comes to building the new home for Washburn leaders. Thiessen Design + Construction and local contractors are melding classic design and modern amenities to accommodate public hospitality spaces and private living quarters in the new estate.
