Brendan Wiley Accepts Position as CEO of the Cameron Park Zoo
The Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center announces the resignation of Brendan Wiley as its Chief Executive Officer, effective November 10, 2023. Brendan has served the Topeka Zoo with passion and dedication since 2010, and his contributions have been invaluable to the zoo and the Topeka and Shawnee County community.
During Brendan's tenure, the Topeka Zoo achieved numerous milestones and significant improvements. Under his leadership, the zoo became a source of community pride as it constructed Camp Cowabunga, the Kay McFarland Japanese Garden, and Giraffe & Friends. Additionally, the zoo introduced Zoo Lights, transitioned from city governance, and implemented a new funding model that no longer relies on property tax. Brendan's passion for the community and his vision for the zoo's future have played a vital role in restoring the zoo as a cherished community asset.

While the Topeka Zoo has flourished under Brendan's guidance, this change presents an opportunity for new leadership to continue building upon the zoo's successes and furthering its mission to enrich our community through wildlife conservation and education. The zoo will conduct a comprehensive, nationwide search for a new CEO to uphold the zoo's commitment to excellence. During this transitional period, the zoo's devoted staff and volunteers, committed community partners, and dedicated board of directors will continue their efforts to provide exceptional care to the animals and deliver engaging educational experiences to visitors.
