Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Rainforest Dome
The Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center is thrilled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its iconic Rainforest Dome. Since its opening in 1974, the Rainforest Dome has been a beacon of education and conservation, immersing visitors in the vibrant ecosystems of tropical rainforests from around the world.
In honor of this milestone, the Topeka Zoo invites the community to join in the festivities on June 22nd, 2024, from 9am to 3pm, as part of World Rainforest Day. This special event will offer patrons a unique opportunity to learn more about the importance of rainforests and the vital role they play in our planet’s health.
During World Rainforest Day at the Topeka Zoo, visitors can embark on self-guided dome tours and meet with animal care and horticulture teams throughout the day. Learning more about the diverse wildlife that calls the rainforest home and participating in interactive activities for all ages. From exploring the canopy walk to discovering the secrets of the forest floor, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. In addition, keeper chats and animal enrichment are scheduled throughout the day.
“We are excited to celebrate this significant milestone for our Rainforest Dome and raise awareness about the importance of rainforest conservation,” said Wrylie Guffey Animal Curator and Elephant Manager. “As stewards of our planet, it’s crucial we understand and appreciate the vital role that rainforests play in sustaining life on Earth. We invite the community to join us on World Rainforest Day to learn, explore, and be inspired.”
