Oakland Pool Opens To Public, Ribbon Cutting Scheduled For August 24

After months of hard work, Shawnee County Parks + Recreation is excited to announce that Oakland Pool will be open to the public. On Saturday, August 24, a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place, followed by the grand opening of Oakland Pool to the residents of Shawnee County. This will take place at 801 NE Poplar, next to the Oakland Community Center.

At 11:30 A.M., a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place inside the new pool. Speakers will include Director Tim Laurent, Shawnee County Commissioners Kevin Cook, Bill Riphahn, and Arron Mays, plus City of Topeka Mayor Mike Padilla. After the ceremony, the pool will then be open to the public. It will be open on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25 from Noon-5:00 P.M. Admission will be $3.00 for all ages and free for anyone under 2 years of age. Patrons are allowed to bring a cooler into the pool for a $10.00 fee.

The new facility will include swim lanes, a kid’s area, a kid’s slide, a double slide, a small lazy river, diving board, bathhouse with a roof, and zero-depth entry. This project cost almost $4 million. Dondlinger Construction were the contractors that completed the pool.
