Made For Manufacturing Career Fair To Connect Students, Job Seekers With Topeka-Area Manufacturers

TopCity FAME, FORGE Young Talent, GO Topeka and Washburn Tech North are partnering to host the Made for Manufacturing Career Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 13, bringing students, job seekers and area manufacturers together for a day focused on careers, training and opportunities within Topeka and Shawnee County’s manufacturing sector.

The event will take place at the new Washburn Tech North facility and will include a career fair featuring area manufacturers, tours of the new facility and opportunities to learn more about TOPCity FAME, the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education program.

The event will be open to students from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a session for the general public from 2 to 5 p.m.

Made for Manufacturing builds on ongoing efforts to strengthen the connection between education, industry and workforce development. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet directly with local manufacturers, learn about available careers and better understand the education and training pathways that can help prepare them for work in the industry.

A key component of the event will be introducing attendees to TopCity FAME, an employer-driven workforce program designed to prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing. FAME combines classroom education with paid, hands-on experience at participating companies, allowing students to build technical skills while developing the professional habits employers are looking for.

“TopCity FAME is designed around what our local manufacturers need and what students need to successfully transition into these careers,” said Renee Franklin, TopCity FAME President/Community Engagement Coordinator for Moore, Digital Print and Mail Center- Topeka

“Made for Manufacturing gives us an opportunity to show people that manufacturing today offers a wide range of career paths, advanced technology and opportunities to build a long-term career right here in our community.”

The career fair will also provide an opportunity for students and young professionals to explore manufacturing careers they may not have previously considered and begin building relationships with local employers.

“Career exposure and connections can make a tremendous difference for someone who is still figuring out what comes next,” said Caleb Soliday, director of FORGE Young Talent at the Greater Topeka Partnership. “Made for Manufacturing gives students and job seekers the opportunity to talk directly with employers, see what modern manufacturing looks like and learn about pathways that can lead to meaningful careers here in Topeka.”

The Made for Manufacturing Career Fair reflects a broader collaborative effort between education providers, workforce organizations and employers to strengthen the local talent pipeline and create clearer connections between people and available career opportunities.
