West Ridge Mall is in the middle of a multi-phase redevelopment that includes upgraded infrastructure and reimagined retail space.
On the construction side, the mall is installing new HVAC systems, including cooling towers and chillers, which will improve comfort and temperature reliability throughout the property.
The mall is also focused on attracting new tenants. “We are taking a targeted, data-driven approach to leasing, identifying brands that align with the market and complement our existing tenant mix. We’re actively working with regional and national retailers while continuing to support the success of our current tenants, which has contributed to positive momentum in both traffic and sales,” said Casey Richardson, general manager of West Ridge Mall.
The former JCPenney space is also being redeveloped. While the upper level will be converted into part of the new Advisors Excel headquarters, the lower level and surrounding areas will be repositioned for new retail and experiential uses. This real estate, which directly faces Wanamaker Road, “has already drawn interest from several prospective tenants,” Casey said.
Recent progress includes demolition within the future retail space and Advisors Excel footprint, relocation and enhancement of several guest amenities including the children’s play area, and the addition of new tenants like Home at Last. To maintain foot traffic during construction, the mall has also expanded its programming, which includes the West Ridge LIVE! concert series and other community events.
Two businesses illustrate what that renewed energy looks like in practice: Petland, a longtime tenant now planning its most significant expansion yet, and Home at Last, which recently relocated to the mall.
