Officials at the New Heartland Park Topeka announce that construction has begun on a new, state-of-the-art motocross facility on northwest corner of the facility’s property. Dirt work began on April 12 and construction of the basic track layout is expected to take 10 to 15 days to complete. “We are very excited to add another motorsports element and race track to this great facility,” says Scott Gardner, president of the New Heartland Park Topeka. “Motocross is very popular, both from a racer and spectator standpoint. It’s a great family sport and having a brand-new motocross race track here at the New Heartland Park Topeka will bring even more racers, spectators and enthusiasts to Topeka.”
The motocross track was designed and being constructed by Tracy Freeman of MX343 LLC Track Building out of Osawatomie, KS. The outdoor style MX track will have everything needed to attract racers from all over the Midwest and eventually bring riders from coast to coast as it gains recognition.
“The track itself will be fun for all skill levels and have a wide variety of obstacles like tabletops jumps, doubles, whoops, scrubs and much more,” says Freeman. “Supporting the track will be plenty of parking, bathrooms, camping and full concessions. Motocross is a great spectator sport and this track design will be spectator friendly with some great vantage points. We plan on filling the stands with motocross fans and all motor sport enthusiast's alike.”
A full AMA-approved, 42 rider starting gate will be installed and a schedule for practice and race dates are in the works. The summer of 2016 schedule will be introductory and a full 2017 race schedule be planned for next year. Racers and fans are asked to watch the New Heartland Park Topeka’s website and Facebook page for more detailed information and schedules as they are developed.
