PLAZA GLOW ILLUMINATES ON FIRST FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4
But far more than lights will brighten the evening. The area will be buzzing on all corners of Huntoon and Oakley with free activities for all ages. From 5 pm - 9 pm, visitors can enjoy:
• free horse-drawn carriage rides through Westboro neighborhood
• Nutcracker dancers serving hot chocolate, courtesy of Ballet Midwest
• strolling carolers
• Workshop Santa offers “Selfies with Santa” for a donation to Toys for Tots
• live music by Lynch • food trucks “This Plaza Glow is our most magical yet,” said Bob Swain, owner of Beauchamp’s Gallery. “We’ve got a special vibe here, a thriving arts culture in this neighborhood. Plaza Glow is a chance to invite all of Topeka to enjoy it with us.” Merchants and galleries will be open all day with Art Walk exhibitions and specials for patrons. There will be a sneak preview of Josey’s Baking Co., opening soon in the Westboro Mart. Julie C. Swift, owner of Topeka Periodontics, is participating in Plaza Glow and supporting the many special activities this year. “I love being in this historic area. It was the first shopping center in Topeka and is designed by the same architect who designed the Plaza in Kansas City. What better way is there to kick off the holiday season than with our own lighting?” said Swift. “We have much to be thankful for,” said Vickie Lynch of Soho Interiors. “Helping Toys for Tots is one way we can spread the cheer across the community.” Santa will be offering “Selfies with Santa” with any donation to Toys for Tots. Westboro Mart is Topeka's historic shopping plaza developed by Tinkham Veale in 1931. Located at Huntoon and Oakley, it’s filled with locally owned boutiques, galleries and shops.
