Waste Management Wins Local and National Awards for Waste Reduction from Keep America Beautiful
The Waste Reduction Award celebrates organizations’ efforts in recycling and waste reduction, littering prevention, and environmental education. Businesses nominated for this award understand the need to build and preserve the environment as well as the community. Over the past year, Waste Management has implemented several initiatives to improve recycling throughout Kansas. Additionally, as a community partner, Waste Management volunteered at KAB’s Get Down and Get Dirty spring-cleaning event and also donated disposal services.
“We have long enjoyed a wonderful partnership with Waste Management of Kansas,” said Philicia McKee, Executive Director, Keep Shawnee County Beautiful. “This past year, they waived the fees for litter collected by the Highway Action Team and Neighborhood Action Teams, and also worked in close partnership with Shawnee County Solid Waste and Shawnee County Commissioners to establish Curbside Recycling.”
“The entire WM team in Topeka is honored that we have been recognized by Keep America Beautiful at a national level for doing what we try to do daily, being good stewards of the environment and community,” said Greg Traver, District Manager for Waste Management - Topeka.
Waste Management was honored with the award during the 2015 KAB National Conference in Washington D.C. Additionally; the Topeka/Shawnee County division of KAB recognized the local efforts of Waste Management’s volunteers and community partners at their Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Big Gage Shelter House.
