TK: What inspires you?
ALLYSON:
Seeing people push their boundaries and accomplish goals that may have seemed out of reach.  I think we all are capable of pushing ourselves, teams, kids, etc. to achieve great things and to have a positive impact on our world.  It is truly inspirational to watch someone beam with pride when they meet a goal that they have worked extremely hard to achieve.

TK: What advice do you have for others?
ALLYSON:
Be a good human.  You have an opportunity to influence every day and with every interaction.  Use these opportunities to make a positive impact on whoever or whatever situation you may be dealing with.  Besides this being the “the right thing to do”, it will build trust and respect with those who live and work around you.

TK: What is the greatest lesson you have learned on your journey?
ALLYSON:
There is only one thing you can control in the majority of situations:  Your own behavior.   It is so important to take the high road regardless of the situation and how others may treat you.  At the end of the day, I want to make sure I can look in the mirror and say “I did everything within my power to treat others with respect and strive towards a better tomorrow.”

The YWCA is on a mission to empower women at all stages in their careers. Diversity in leadership is particularly vital to our vibrant business community in the Greater Topeka Area.

The YWCA is celebrating 31 years of recognizing Women of Excellence in our community with the theme “Dare to be Powerful.” We dare to be powerful, despite whatever obstacles may present themselves along the way.

“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”
- Audre Lorde
