Topeka Habitat for Humanity to Host Annual Appreciation Event and Community Awards

Topeka Habitat for Humanity will host its annual appreciation event – “Building Together” – on January 30, 2020 from 5:30p – 8:30p. This event will take place at The Foundry, located at 400 SW 33rd Street.

“Building Together” will allow Topeka Habitat for Humanity to celebrate and thank all of the organization’s supporters. To date, the organization has built 108 new homes, repaired over 300 existing homes, and served thousands of Shawnee county residents.

“It takes many hands to make our work possible each day,” said Janice Watkins, Executive Director of Topeka Habitat for Humanity. “We could not continue to increase our ability to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter without the numerous donors, community partners and volunteers. This is our way of thanking them and celebrating the families we serve.”

Topeka Habitat will be recognizing a few special honorees as well as more than 30 Topeka Habitat volunteers that have served over 100 hrs in the past year. In addition, they will make a special announcement and introduce the families that have been selected to become 2020 Topeka Habitat homeowners. “We look forward to this event each year, with over 1000 volunteers serving more than 13,000 hours in 2019 we honestly could not serve the community without them.” said Nikki MacMillan, Director of Community Engagement. “It’s our chance to acknowledge all that has been accomplished and share our plans for the future.”

Dinner will be served at 5:30 with the program to commence at 6:30.

Thanks to the following community sponsors for making this event possible; Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, Coldwell Banker Griffith and Blair American Home, Geoff Greene, Michael and Maria Wilson, The Burger Stand at College Hill, The Foundry, Create/Uplift, Meadowlark Graphics, and Nanny’s Soul Food.
