Kansas Ballet and Capitol Federal® Community Mural Project

Kansas Ballet Company has produced a new mural for Downtown Topeka, featuring design by NOTO artist Jennifer Bohlander. The interactive mural, featuring characters from the Wizard of Oz, is located at 723 SE Quincy Street, on the east wall of the Parking Garage at the Capitol Federal Home Office Building in Downtown Topeka, next to the entrance of Quincy Street Garage.

The public art project was made possible by the TopArts grant program, which is funded with dollars from the City General Fund and administered by ArtsConnect.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Capitol Federal on this project, because of CapFed’s deep commitment to the community” said Alex Smirnov, Co-Owner and Artistic Director for Kansas Ballet. The location of the mural is very meaningful to us. Across the street you can see the beautiful Topeka Performing Arts Center, which is our performance home. The Evergy Plaza site is within walking distance. We hope this mural will be another must-see stop for visitors, and that they will get the message that Topeka is an arts town.”

John Dicus, President and CEO of Capitol Federal says that he is “pleased with the opportunity to partner with Kansas Ballet Company and share part of our building for this mural. With a classic Wizard of Oz theme, generations of people, from Topeka and beyond, will enjoy this welcomed addition to Downtown Topeka.”
