Evergy announces Hometown Economic Recovery Program recipients

Evergy announced the grant recipients of its Hometown Economic Recovery Program today. The program provides grants to nonprofit agencies focused on rebuilding their local economies that have been affected by the pandemic.

“Hometown Economic Recovery Program grants focus on programs that can provide strategic support and resources to help our region’s overall recovery,” said Elizabeth Danforth, Evergy’s director of public affairs. “These agencies play a vital role as businesses and communities recover and adapt to challenges brought by the pandemic. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support their work.”

Applications for the initial phase began June 1, with over 100 applications submitted.  Grants were awarded to 23 non-profit agencies.  The second phase is now open for applications with recipients being announced in October.  Areas of eligibility included small business needs, business attraction and retention, and workforce training and development. Evergy will award grants totaling $800,000 in two phases, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. As part of this effort, Evergy also invested in two small business loan funds, Network Kansas and the GKC COVID Small Business Relief Fund.
