With many activities and events cancelled and workplaces and schools closed, most Topekans spent a lot more time in their homes and yards in 2020 than in previous years. And all that familiarity, in many cases, bred contempt not for loved ones but for outdated bathrooms, kitchens and cramped communal spaces ill-equipped to accommodate multiple family members home together all day every day for months.
