Milestone Market: Flashy Owl Photo Booth
Flashy Owl Photo Booth is a photo booth rental business, available for parties and events. Co-owners Christina Rakestraw and Kayla Fellers are a mother-daughter team dedicated to bringing quality photo fun to events.
“Having a photo booth is a great way to bring people of all ages together and allows you and your guests to keep memories of that special day forever,” Fellers said. “We use a professional DSLR camera, so all your pictures come out looking great. Our booth comes with fun and high quality prop signs (not the DIY props), high- grade backdrops, a flash drive of all pictures and unlimited 2x6 print outs.”
Fellers and Rakestraw wanted to go into business together and considered a few other possibilities before landing on the idea of a photo booth.
“It just clicked for both of us,” Fellers said. “We loved the idea of being in the event industry because no matter the type of event, it’s always a fun time. We love what we do, and it never feels like work for us.”
Fellers and Rakestraw planned to focus on booking weddings, so Milestone Market was a perfect fit for their business. The team has felt welcomed into the events community, and Abbey Brown has been happy to help Flashy Owl Photo Booth grow.
“Not only do we get to advertise to the wedding community by leasing the space, but we also participate in fun pop-up events at the Milestone Market,” Fellers said. “Abbey Brown truly cares about supporting local businesses and that makes the opportunity even better. She has planned several pop-up events since we started leasing space a few months ago, such as a Trunk or Treat on Halloween, a Fall Race Event, and a 12 Days of Christmas giveaway. It's a great way to get our name out there and have a lot of fun at the same time.”
Rakestraw and Fellers officially got their business license in the beginning of February, right before the pandemic led to restrictions and a stay at home order. While it was not the start that the two had planned, they seized the opportunity to better their business. They worked on their website, took photos of all of their equipment and developed their marketing plan.
“All the time we had off from our full-time jobs during this pandemic gave us the time and opportunity to make the business what we envisioned,” Fellers said.
Flashy Owl was able to book several events, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
“Even though it's been a crazy year, we are just so grateful that we are open and have been able to participate in events in a safe way,” Fellers said.
As a bonus, running a business together has been a bonding experience for mother and daughter, bringing them closer and deepening their respect for each other.
