Kansas Ballet Will Present ‘The Nutcracker' This Holiday Season

Kansas Ballet’s 8th annual production of The Nutcracker will be presented at Topeka Performing Arts Center (TPAC) on Saturday, December 18, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 19, at 1:00 p.m. All ages are welcome to attend.

Kansas Ballet will adhere to all TPAC Covid-19 mitigation guidelines and seating requirements.

The performance will feature professional guest artists Kathryn Morgan and Sean Rollofson, along with the student dancers of Kansas Ballet Academy. The production will again feature live musical accompaniment by Topeka Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Kyle Wiley Pickett.

With over 30 million YouTube viewers worldwide, Kansas Ballet’s featured guest artist Kathryn Morgan is a true ballet superstar. Ms. Morgan has performed as a Soloist for both New York City Ballet and Miami City Ballet, and is the creator of the Kathryn Morgan channel, dedicated to sharing positive, uplifting lessons from the life of a professional ballerina.

Through social media, Ms. Morgan has also shared her past struggles with chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis— a disease that threatened to derail her dance career. This honesty has allowed her to connect with dancers and non-dancers of all ages. In addition to YouTube, fans can find Ms. Morgan through her podcast, The Kathryn Morgan Show, a column for Dance Spirit magazine, and on Instagram @Kathryn_Morgan; in addition, she is the creator of the Kathryn Morgan Scholarship, the Kathryn Morgan Collection and Kathryn Morgan Haul, and is a judge and master teacher for the Youth America Grand Prix Ballet Competition.

Ms. Morgan will perform with Kansas Ballet Company in the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Sean Rollofson will be featured in the role of the Nutcracker Prince.

Mr. Rollofson is originally from Redmond, Washington, and has performed as a member of Pacific Northwest Ballet, City Ballet of San Diego, and, most recently, with BalletMet of Columbus, Ohio. He has also performed as a guest artist at The Kennedy Center, dancing Don Quixote Grand Pas de deux and Romeo and Juliet’s Balcony pas de deux, both with Kathryn Morgan, for Bloch’s Evening with Kathryn Morgan. Mr. Rollofson danced in the BBC film version of Pacific Northwest Ballet’s production of George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, filmed at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.
