Washburn Tech Prepares To Build Holiday Spirit
Washburn Tech will become Santa’s Workshop when it hosts Toys for Tots Build Day from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3 in Building K on the Washburn Tech campus at 5724 SW Huntoon St.
The annual event involves students, instructors, staff and community volunteers who cut, assemble and paint homemade wooden toys for area children in need. Projects will include step stools, hobby horses, beat box drums and yo-yos.
All items will be donated to Toys for Tots Foundation which distributes toys to approximately a dozen counties in northeast Kansas. Washburn Tech Student Advisory Committee and Washburn Tech’s SkillsUSA Chapter are co-sponsors of the production.
In 2019, volunteers contributed more than 1,000 hours of community service and assembled more than 1,308 toys. This will be the eighth year for the effort.
