Stormont Vail Health Announces New Robotic Surgery
"Through this surgery, we can achieve near-perfect positioning of the knee replacement," said Michael Tilley, M.D., surgeon, Cotton O'Neil Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. "Our patients can have a more personalized approach to their surgery leading to improved function, a more natural feel and longevity of the knee replacement."
The technology enables the surgeon to create a personalized surgical plan by utilizing 2D pre-operative x-rays to create an accurate 3D virtual image of the knee. This allows for greater precision and flexibility for the surgeon. Utilization of the robot ensures that the replacement implant is accurately placed in the correct position, a difficult task for surgeons to do on their own,
A total knee replacement completed through robot-assisted surgery allows the patient to have a faster recovery time, longer-lasting relief from injury, arthritis and other knee diseases, and improved mobility and more natural joint movement.
Partial knee and full hip replacements will become available in late 2021.
