Topeka South Rotary Introduced Three Scholarship Winners
The Topeka South Rotary Club introduced the three local Shawnee County high school seniors who won their Club’s inaugural scholarships. With an emphasis on service to the community, Topeka South Rotary recognizes the importance of post-secondary education and encourages our local youth to pursue their passion at either the vocational school level or to a 2 or 4-year college or university.
Award Amounts:
One $500 scholarship to a Topeka High Interact high school senior
One $500 scholarship to a Shawnee County Interact high school senior
One $500 scholarship to a Shawnee County high school senior
Topeka High Interact High School Senior
Kelm Lear is a class of 2021 Topeka High School senior and a member of the THS Interact club (high school equivalent to Rotary), which is sponsored by Topeka South Rotary. In addition to being a member of the club, he also served as President this school year. Kelm has been active in multiple community endeavors including being a member of the Superintendent’s student advisory board, a graduate of Leadership Greater Topeka (class of 2020) and Senior Class Vice President of his Student Government at Topeka High School.
Shawnee County Interact High School Senior
Aubrey Zimmerman is a class of 2021 Topeka High School senior and member of the THS Interact Club (high school equivalent to Rotary), which is sponsored by Topeka South Rotary. Her school involvement includes being on the Topeka High School swim team and volleyball team throughout high school, serving as captain of the volleyball team for the past two years. She has also been a part of National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, Math Club, Going GreenClub, and AFS. All of this in addition to the numerous local non-profits and charities that she spends her time volunteering for.
Shawnee County High School Senior
Madelyn Esquibel is a class of 2021 Shawnee Heights High School senior. She has been the Student Council Class President all 4 years of high school, yearbook editor, active in Fellowship of Christian Students, member of the Thunderette Dance team and the swim team. Madelyn also served as a student dance teacher at The Dance Factory.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for a Topeka South Rotary scholarship, you must be pursuing a post-secondary educational opportunity.
Qualifications:
To qualify for a Topeka South Rotary scholarship, the student should be:
● A person with a broad range of interests encompassing a good academic record, participation in a variety of school activities, and involvement in community or charitable service.
● An individual who has a knowledge of Rotary and has demonstrated a belief in the work ethic through service experiences.
● A self-motivated person who has established goals and objectives with the proven ability to meet or exceed those targets.
