Kansas Workforce Development & Education Summit Set for August 25th

Kansas Workforce Development & Education Summit Set for August 25th

The second annual 2021 Kansas Workforce Development and Education Summit on Wednesday, August 25th will focus on the many challenges businesses face to compete for workers. The summit will be from 9:00 am - to 5:00 pm at the Marriott Hotel in Wichita.

"Talent supply is a top priority for Kansas businesses, regardless of the size of their workforce or industry. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic also has made it more challenging to find and hire well-trained employees," said Kansas Chamber President and CEO Alan Cobb. "This summit will bring together business owners, human resources experts, educators, and policy makers to exam the state’s workforce needs and identify opportunities to address them."

Workforce strategies expert Ted Abernathy will dive into the state's workforce challenges and how our state can work to address them.

Abernathy will join more than two dozen other speakers and panelists to discuss topics such as:

·     Increasing registered apprenticeships

·     How communities are recruiting for high demand jobs

·     The pros and cons of having employees work from home

·     Employment compensation and benefit trends

·     What it takes to become an employer of choice

Cobb said the Kansas Chamber also will release an update to its The Challenge to Compete - Kansas Workforce 2020 report. The report made 20 recommendations on what Kansas can do to improve workforce development and how education can better align with the staffing needs of our state’s industries.

“We knew this report would be a living plan that would improve and expand as we met and worked with other stakeholders committed to addressing our state’s workforce challenges,” said Cobb. “We look forward to helping build a talent pipeline that allows Kansas and its citizens to grow and prosper.”
