Topeka Zoo to Host Vote Gage Park Town Hall
The Topeka Zoo will be the site for the first town hall discussion on the Vote Gage Park initiative. The town hall will provide an opportunity for Shawnee County voters to hear more about the ballot question, learn how it will impact the Zoo and other Gage Park facilities, view the Zoo’s master plan for use of the funds, and answer voters’ questions.
A total of three community town halls are planned for voters to gather more information and ask questions in advance of the November 8th election. They include:
Thursday, Oct. 13
Time: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Location: Topeka Zoo
Tuesday, Oct. 18
Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
Location: Kansas Children’s Discovery Center
Thursday, Oct. 20
Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
Location: Topeka Zoo
All town halls are free and open to the public. No reservations are needed – just stop in!

What is the Vote Gage Park initiative?
Right now, the Topeka Zoo and Gage Park improvements are largely funded through property taxes. The Vote Gage Park plan would create a two-tenths of a penny sales tax dedicated to Gage Park. This would ensure funding for Gage Park’s future, Topeka Zoo operations and new exhibits, and educational programs and special exhibits at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. The Vote Gage Park would also shift the pressure off our property taxes by at least $2 million per year.
