When Pigs Fly | TVM Spotlight
The booth, When Pigs Fly, always reminds us of a pretty vintage post card. Linda Lukert-Devoe has the knack for finding vintage pieces and the ability to see their potential. She gives furniture new life by painting and applying beautiful transfers. Along with furniture, she has an eye for picking out and staging the most beautiful potpourri of odds and ends that make When Pigs Fly a customer favorite. Linda was one of our first vendors and we are so grateful that when she walked into our empty warehouse almost two years ago, she saw the possibilities in Topeka Vendors Market.
How did you come up with your business name? The saying “When Pigs Fly” means something will never happen. I never thought I’d have an opportunity to start my own business, but it happened. Plus I am a farm girl at heart. I have booths at Topeka Vendors Market and I have two other booth locations in Topeka.
How long have you been in business? I’m starting my 5th year of business. Two years before I retired from teaching, I opened my first booth and loved it! It has provided a creative outlet for me since retirement. I absolutely love to shop and love to share some of my finds with other people.
What is the focus of your merchandise? I like to upcycle or recycle older items, such as tables, dressers and desks. So you are likely to find quality vintage furniture in my space.
What can we find at your booth that we can not find anywhere else? I love to take old furniture and paint and fix them up so they have a new life. Adding transfers to the furniture make my creations stand out.
What is the most unusual, popular or rare item you have ever sold? My most unusual find was a very unique MCM lamp of a dancing woman that was about 3 feet tall. I found it at an estate sale. Most popular item was a set of wicker peacock chairs. Something like that is a rare find.
