What are your strengths?
I like to think being a connector or bridge-builder is a strength of mine. Because of where I come from and what I've experienced over the years, I've often felt caught between different worlds. That allows me to see situations from multiple sides and appreciate the nuance in a given moment.

What characteristic do you most admire in others?
I admire when people are good listeners and aren't afraid to admit when they're wrong, because I think those who refuse to do that miss opportunities to reflect, learn and grow. I think great leaders listen humbly to those who offer different perspectives on life, and the best leaders lean into the wisdom that comes from diverse perspectives, in order to move communities and causes forward.

What advice has served you well in your journey?
Get comfortable being uncomfortable, because that's where the growth happens! I remember a friend from high school telling me this, and it's become a motto of sorts for me. While it isn't always easy — in fact, it usually isn't easy — I try to intentionally step outside of my comfort zone often. You never know what might happen when you enter a new situation with optimism and an open mind.

What book are you reading now? Why?
Just finished reading Untamed by Glennon Doyle; it was therapy in 350 pages. Next up is Nomadland by Jessica Bruder! I tend to gravitate toward nonfiction and memoirs because I like to draw lessons from the experiences of others and see how those relate to different aspects of my own life

What do you love most about your work?
I love that each and every day, I get to communicate with locals and the world about all the wonderful things happening in the greater Topeka area! Not only does my work help shine a positive light on Shawnee County and northeast Kansas, but I have the unique position of uplifting the work of my colleagues and leaders across the community in a way that promotes our area, inspires residents and visitors alike to get involved, and helps further the GTP's mission of improving economic prosperity for all.

What led you to this career?
I started at The Partnership after spending a little over two years as The Topeka Capital-Journal's business reporter. That's actually the gig that brought me to Topeka! I was fortunate to attend Loyola University New Orleans, where I studied journalism and sociology, and I moved to Kansas' capital city upon graduating. I had never visited the sunflower state when I accepted that position, so it was a big leap of faith for me! Little did I know at the time how much I would come to love this community and its people. I took every opportunity I could to get involved and connect with the area's movers and shakers — because let me tell you, there are so many incredible folks doing groundbreaking work here. When it came time for me to look for my next job, I wasn't ready to leave Topeka! Luckily, I landed at the GTP, where I get to continue serving this community. It's truly been a blessing!

What does a day in the life look like for you?
No two days are the same — which I love!

What motivates you?
I feel most motivated when I'm surrounded by people who are inspired to act with purpose and who seek to make a positive difference in their communities and the lives of others!

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
I would love to be played by Sophia Bush! I think I first watched her in the show One Tree Hill, and I follow her on Instagram now. I love that she speaks out against injustice and stands firmly behind causes that address social and environmental issues.
