Library Hosts Free Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament

Library Hosts Free Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament

The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is hosting a Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament with Top City Smash Bros on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 1-5 p.m. in Marvin Auditorium. This is a free event open to all ages. Players can register at https://events.tscpl.org/event/8060976.

"The library is hosting this tournament to give players an opportunity to compete at no cost," said Library Program Manager Jacqueline Belden. "Top City Smash is bringing the video game tournament expertise as co-host and we are providing the space and enthusiasm."

This event will be a double elimination tournament, which means a player must be defeated twice to be eliminated from the tournament. Players start out in the winners' bracket, and if they lose, they move to the losers' bracket. If they are defeated in the losers' bracket, they are eliminated completely.

Super Smash Bros. is a crossover video game series published by Nintendo with characters from multiple Nintendo franchises. The goal is to knock the opponent out of bounds to deplete their life bar.

Tournaments are a big part of the Super Smash Bros. community. It's a way for players to to test their skills. This is a fun social opportunity anyone can join. Players are encouraged to bring their own controllers, but the library will have some available. Players may bring their Switch, Switch dock and cables, and GC adapters if available. The beginning of the event (1-2:30 p.m.) will be friendly games and single bracket competition will start at 2:30 p.m.
