What do you love most about your work?
Working in the funeral industry has given me a much deeper appreciation for life. It allows me to love harder than I could ever explain. It has showed me that not only can I overcome my battles, but how to embrace my new realities. It teaches me how to grow flowers in the darkest parts of me.

Who are your mentors and why?
Donna Mathena-Menke, owner of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. She has shaped me into her little prodigy and is an empowering woman. It has been a privilege to learn and work alongside such a compassionate and knowledgeable person. She is a second mom to me, my unpaid therapist, and she always knew I was called to serve.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself and why?
Intentional. I am intentional with my goals, with the people I spend time with, and with my faith. This allows me to live a life filled with purpose.

What has been your biggest Aha! moment?
Understanding the things my mom said I would understand when I'm older.

What would we mostly likely see you doing on a weekend?
Grabbing a coffee at either CoffeeHead or Circle Coffee Co. Fulfilling dog-mom duties for my sweet Grace the Goldendoodle. Enjoying a cocktail at Soliloquy with great company. Mass on Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and spending Sunday with my loved ones and practicing piano.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned?
One of the most valuable lessons I have ever learned from the funeral industry is to treat everyone around you like today is their last day because one day it will be. We fail to remember that day is today for so many people and we just don't know it yet.

What led you to this career?
I have always had the desire to help people in any way possible. When I was in grade school I would be an altar server for funerals. During those funerals, I found strength, peace, and I found my calling. I realized that I can help people, that I can make a difference, and that is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing.

What should one never take for granted?
Being present in every single moment. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, not myself and not those I love. Time is precious, focus on the now.

Who is your greatest inspiration?
My mom; Virginia Cardenas, and my Abuelita; Frances Ortiz. They have inspired me to create my personal relationship with Jesus, and they push me in every moment to become the best version of myself.

What music artist do you never get tired of?
SELENA! "Coma la Flor" and “Techno Cumbia” are my go-to's.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
My sister; Mirella Marcelo because we look so much alike or JLO if Mirella is unavailable.
