Topeka Zoo's 90th Birthday Celebration

The Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center is pleased to invite the community to its 90th Birthday Celebration, set to take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023. This special event commemorates nine decades of dedicated wildlife conservation, education, and the profound connections that unite people and the natural world.

"September 2nd marks a special day in the history of the Topeka Zoo as we celebrate 90 years of wildlife wonder, education, and community spirit,” said Cynthia McCarvel, director of development for the Topeka Zoo. “Our 90th Birthday Celebration is not only a tribute to our past but also a commitment to a vibrant future of conservation, sustainability, and fostering connections between people and the natural world. We're excited to invite everyone to join us on this remarkable journey of learning, fun, and making a positive impact together."

As a gesture of gratitude and community unity, the Topeka Zoo will provide FREE admission to all visitors throughout this special day. The Topeka Zoo will also be presenting $5 Topeka Zoo gift cards to the first 90 families who join the festivities. These gift cards offer the chance to enhance the zoo experience at the gift shop or Sunflower’s Café & Grill.

Aligned with the Topeka Zoo's steadfast commitment to sustainability, the event is collaborating with Harvesters to collect nonperishable food items. This collaborative effort addresses food scarcity in the region, embodying the zoo's overarching mission of nurturing the planet and paving the way for a sustainable future.

Ballet Midwest will also take the stage with the captivating, "Wildly Creative" performance, scheduled for two showtimes at 9:30 am and 11:30 am. Families can embark on scavenger hunts, explore educational carts, and revel in close encounters with the zoo's engaging animal ambassadors. Additionally, visitors will have the chance to participate in feedings for lorikeets and giraffes at 11 am.

Throughout the day, families can partake in Keeper Chats, witness birthday enrichment activities, where animals will receive special treats and engagements designed to stimulate their natural behaviors.
