Shawnee County Parks + Recreation Hosts Gage Park Founders Fest

Shawnee County Parks + Recreation is excited to announce the Gage Park Founders Fest on Saturday, August 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This family-friendly event will be packed with free activities, entertainment, and educational opportunities for all ages.

 The activities listed below will take place in and around Gage Park. 

Event Highlights:

  • Free Train Rides: Enjoy complimentary train rides to and from the zoo, which will also offer free admission on this special day. The train will make two stops in the park on each lap, one at the depot and one at the Carousel allowing riders to load and unload at both locations.

  • Free Carousel Rides: Take a spin on the historic carousel at no cost.

  • Rec and Roll Van: Join in on games and music from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Kansas Children’s Discovery Center Mobile Museum: Explore interactive exhibits from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library Bookmobile: Engage with fun learning activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • History of Gage Park: Learn about the rich history of Gage Park through a special program led by Shawnee County Commissioner Bill Riphan and SCPR recreation leader Devin Cooper, available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Helen Hocker Theater: Enjoy performances of songs from “SpongeBob Squarepants…..The Musical” at the Gage Park Amphitheatre in the afternoon.

  • Food Trucks: Savor a variety of delicious foods from local food trucks throughout the day.
