Kansas Bar Association Releases Results of Judicial Survey Project
Results from the Judicial Survey Project, a nonpartisan, non-political, educational project designed to inform Kansas voters about the performance and qualifications of judges, have been released.
This initiative is proudly supported by the Kansas Bar Association, Kansas Bar Foundation, Kansas Women Attorneys Association, Kansas Women Attorneys for Freedom, Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, and the Legacy of Justice Foundation. Individual supporters include Whitney B. Damron, Rachel Pirner, Megan Monsour, and Katie McClaflin.
The Kansas Bar Association and its partners retained the University of Kansas Institute for Policy and Social Research (IPSR) to host the survey. IPSR conducted a comprehensive survey evaluating the performance of the Kansas Court of Appeal judges up for retention in the 2024 Kansas general election.
The survey aimed to provide an objective assessment of the judges' effectiveness, impartiality, and professionalism based on feedback from Kansas lawyers. Surveys were distributed to more than 16,000 licensed Kansas lawyers. Survey respondents were asked to participate if they had direct and personal knowledge of the judge’s qualifications during their current term of office.
“The importance and relevance of this survey should not be minimized,” says Wyandotte County District Attorney and Kansas Bar Association President, Mark A. Dupree, Sr. “Having access to this information helps the Kansas electorate make informed choices on those seeking to be retained as a judge in our great state.”
Readers of the survey are encouraged to review these results carefully, along with other available information, to ensure a well-rounded understanding of each judge’s record and contributions to the judicial system.
