Topeka Community Foundation, partners celebrate North Topeka Apartments ribbon cutting

The Topeka Community Foundation alongside partners Bennington State Bank and North Topeka Apartments, LLC, are excited to celebrate the official opening of the North Vista Apartments. This development is the result of a community-driven partnership seeking to meet a need for safe, affordable, and stable housing in Topeka.

The North Vista Apartments have 24 studio units, including 2 accessible units, a laundry room, and an on-site office. Located at the corner of N. Kansas Avenue and Highway 24, the development is close to public transportation and several local businesses and employers.

Reden Jalosjos, co-owner of North Topeka Apartments, LLC, owns several apartment complexes throughout Topeka. “What we are building is more than apartments. We are building hope and support for the people who will call this home,” he said. “My goal is to provide stability for anyone who needs it while they are starting over or getting back on their feet.” Jalosjos is working with the Topeka Rescue Mission, Doorstep, Inc., and other community organizations to identify potential residents. Current rent cost is $700 per month, including utilities, with no long-term lease requirements.

“Housing and other complex challenges facing our community require innovative strategies,” said Marsha Pope, President of the Topeka Community Foundation. “Our impact investing program creates transformational changes by targeting projects that generate measurable community impact alongside a financial return.” The Foundation provided a $300,000 loan to fund a portion of the construction costs.

Bennington State Bank partnered with the Topeka Community Foundation to finance construction of the North Vista Apartments. Ben Murphy, Vice President, said, “Bennington State Bank is honored to be a part of this project since the beginning. As a trusted hometown bank, we take pride in serving local businesses and supporting the communities where we live and work.”
