Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka to Celebrate Opening of Kansas' First Dream Court™

Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka (BGCT) is celebrating the opening of Kansas' first Dream Court™ at the Adams Club, marking a historic milestone for youth recreation, community engagement, and positive partnerships between young people and local law enforcement.

The opening of Kansas' first Dream Court™ marks a significant investment in the future of local youth and communities. The new court will become the 140th Dream Court established nationwide through Nancy Lieberman Charities' Dream Court program, which creates spaces where youth, law enforcement, and community leaders can connect, build trust, and foster opportunity.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature Nancy Lieberman, founder of Nancy Lieberman Charities. Lieberman is a two-time Basketball Hall of Famer and two-time Olympian. She became only the second female assistant coach for an NBA team when the Sacramento Kings hired her. In the BIG3, where she currently coaches, she achieved another milestone as the first woman to win a championship as the head coach of a men's professional team and became a two-time Coach of the Year. She is a philanthropist and social activist, recipient of the Martin Luther King National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Award and the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award, and a member of the International Sports Hall of Fame.

The event will also bring together local and state leaders, including representatives from the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office and the Topeka Police Department, to celebrate a shared commitment to supporting young people and strengthening community partnerships.

"The opening of Kansas' first Dream Court represents far more than a new place to play," said Dawn McWilliams, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka. "It represents what is possible when organizations, community leaders, and law enforcement come together around a shared goal of creating opportunities for young people. This court will provide a space where youth can stay active, build confidence, develop positive relationships, and create memories that last a lifetime.”

The Dream Court will serve Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka members and the broader community as a welcoming space that promotes teamwork, leadership, healthy lifestyles, and meaningful connections for years to come.
