Most employees are used to being told not to use Facebook during the workday.

But at Advisors Excel, a national firm providing a wide spectrum of services and support to independent financial professionals, employees are being encouraged to get on Facebook at work.

That’s because Advisors Excel is one of just 450 companies around the world that are beta testing Facebook at Work, a new business platform from the social media giant that encourages employees to collaborate, pass along news, plan meetings and share documents.

“We are thrilled to be chosen from 60,000 applicants to pilot the new business communication platform,” said Advisors Excel Chief Marketing Officer Kelly Pierce. “We think this will be a fantastic way for team members to engage each other and find meaningful ways to enhance communication and collaboration at the office. We are leveraging this new Facebook tool to be more productive in finding ways to serve our clients, independent financial professionals, in a more efficient and effective manner.”

Just as with the traditional social media platform, users of the Facebook at Work pilot will be able to set up groups and events, send instant messages, and share pictures, video and posts with a large audience. There’s even a mobile Work Chat app to message instantly, so employees can stay connected when they are outside the office.

In addition, Facebook at Work offers a safe and secure way for organizations to collaborate, because only people within the company can see the information employees post on the platform.

There’s no mixing business with pleasure, however. The work version of Facebook is completely separate from employees’ personal Facebook accounts.

Advisors Excel joins the ranks of other early adopters of the Facebook at Work program, including Royal Bank of Scotland and Heineken.
