Patria Alba, M.D., Joins Cotton O’Neil as Pediatric Endocrinology Physician

Human physiology has always fascinpatria-alba-aponte-web-2016ated Patria Alba, M.D. ever since she was a small child. When deciding on a career, she realized that she wanted her job to be her mission in life and that she wanted to find a way to wake up every morning to help alleviate pain and disease. Becoming a pediatric endocrinologist allows her to combine her passion with studying and investigating one of the most important aspects in human physiology: how hormones affect our body. Cotton O’Neil is proud to announce that Patria Alba, M.D., has joined Cotton O’Neil and will practice as a pediatric endocrinology physician. Her practice will be located at the Cotton O’Neil Diabetes & Endocrinology Center, 3520 S.W. Sixth Ave., in Topeka.

Dr. Alba received her medical degree at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre Y Maestra (PUCMM), School of Medicine, Dominican Republic, in 2005. She completed a residency program in pediatrics at Elmhurst Hospital/Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Elmhurst, N.Y., in 2013. She completed a fellowship in Pediatric endocrinology at Children’s Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine, Kansas City, Mo., in 2016.

“With knowledge and great treatment options available, I have the opportunity to help my patients in a direct way,” said Dr. Alba. “Following patients for a long period of time and getting to know them on a personal level is deeply satisfying and enjoyable.”

Patients have described Dr. Alba as compassionate, thorough, relatable, knowledgeable, always willing to explain the process of disease and treatment options, and deeply invested in her patients. She has been active in community service by serving as a diabetes camp physician for two years. She also served as an ARS Humano physician and provided medical assistance in Haiti after a 7.0 earthquake hit the country in 2010.
