The Topeka Community Foundation is providing $60,000.00 in “matching money” for donors who support one or more organizations at Topeka Gives – an event inside Fairlawn Plaza Mall on Tuesday, June 2nd from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The match money will be awarded proportionally to the participating nonprofit organizations. Donors will select which organization(s) to support and 100% of their donation (plus the Foundation’s match money) will be passed along to the agency receiving the contribution.
Representatives from the organizations will set up inside Fairlawn Plaza Mall to share educational material. Several will have children-friendly, hands-on activities, too.
“This promises to be a very positive, powerful day to celebrate charitable giving,” said Marsha Pope, vice president of the foundation. “On this day we focus on the power of philanthropy in our community and the joy found in charitable giving.”
There is a $25 minimum gift and donors can support up to five different agencies. Contributions must be made in person by cash, check or credit card. Donations are 100 percent tax deductible.
A listing of participating organizations and a downloadable contribution form is available at the foundation’s web site at www.topekacommunityfoundation.org.
The Foundation will announce at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 18th back inside Fairlawn Plaza Mall the total amount raised and provide checks to each participating agency which will be the total from donor gifts and the foundation’s match.
The mission of the Topeka Community Foundation is to connect donors with their interests and community needs, increase charitable giving in the community, provide leadership on key community issues and ensure stewardship and accountability for effective community investment of donor dollars.
