Two July Forums Enable Voters to Visit with Candidates at the Library

Chamber-LogoTo prepare voters for the primary election, the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, Fast Forward, the League of Women Voters of Topeka and Shawnee County and a number of other local organizations are hosting forums that will enable voters to meet the candidates and hear their points of views. On Friday, July 22, Fast Forward, the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters are hosting a Meet the Candidates event from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Ave.

Candidates for County Commission, sheriff and district attorney will be invited and each attendee will have a table set up for him or her. The public will be invited to stroll in at any point during the evening to sit down and chat with the candidates who interest them. The candidates will then use this opportunity to hear what's on voters' minds.

On Tuesday, July 26, a group of 12 local organizations, including the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, is hosting a Legislative Candidate Forum, also from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Ave. Candidates for the state legislature who face primary elections on Aug. 2 have been invited. Zach Ahrens, publisher of the Topeka Capital-Journal, will act as moderator. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and listen in as their candidates answer tough questions about issues facing the Kansas legislature.

Other cohosting organizations are Fast Forward, Community Action, Inc., Community Resources Council, ERC Resource & Referral Inc., Heartland Visioning, InterHab, League of Women Voters of Topeka and Shawnee Co., Oral Health Kansas, Topeka Bar Association, United Way of Greater Topeka and YWCA of Northeast Kansas
