Westar Energy earns top marks from interns.

westarLogoWestar Energy found its name among international brands like Boeing and Nickelodeon when Valut.com announced its 2016 Internship Rankings recently. Westar Energy earned top honors for Quality of Life and for providing the best intern experience in the energy industry. “Westar’s intern program helps us attract smart, capable employees eager to serve our customers,” said Mark Ruelle, Westar Energy president and CEO. “We get energized by these students and what we can learn from and teach them when they spend a few months of their education with Westar. The Vault ranking is special because it means Westar interns found their time with us valuable.”

In giving Westar top marks for Quality of Life, interns told Vault that the company is filled with “numerous great and knowledgeable people” who are “willing to teach you and help you along the way” — “you are surrounded by people trying to help you succeed.” In addition, the “hours are flexible,” you’re “given the ability to work on projects by yourself,” and people “respect your opinion and work.”

This year 55 interns from across the country joined Westar to gain experience in trades such as line work and professions ranging from engineering and accounting to communications and human resources. While most interns join the Westar team for the summer, the company also offers internships during the school year.

Vault is a comprehensive resource for employer, university, and internship program rankings, ratings, and insight. Vault’s influential rankings and reviews are sourced from directed surveys of professionals and students, and evaluate companies, schools, and internships in terms of prestige, best place to work, diversity, quality of life, compensation, and other categories. Vault provides users with in-depth information on employers, industries, interviews, and available jobs and internships. In addition, Vault partners with employers to help build their brands and assist with recruiting efforts, and with universities to help their students with employment placement and career selection.
