Westar Energy invites customers to subscribe to its new community solar program, designed to make solar possible for all customers. “Our customers are interested in solar, and Westar’s new program makes solar power easy and available to all our customers. Community solar removes the barriers that keep solar limited to just a few customers,” said Mark Ruelle, president and chief executive officer. “Community solar guarantees a locked-in price and is maintenance free.”
Community solar is a cost-effective, convenient way for all customers to have the opportunity for solar, making it increasingly popular nationwide. Community solar installations are perfect for customers with historic homes, for renters and families who want to add solar without any upfront cost or debt. Also, if a customer moves within our service area, their solar energy and guaranteed pricing follows them.
Customers can learn more and enroll anytime through March 31, 2016, by visiting www.WestarEnergy.com/communitysolar. Westar will build community solar arrays based on the number of subscriptions. The estimated additional cost for a household to receive about 15 percent of their electricity through community solar is about $10 per month at current electricity prices. Subscriptions range from five to 20 years. During enrollment, customers lock in their solar subscription price, which will not change even if standard electricity rates increase.
