Annual Go Red for Women® Event will Feature a Local Mom who Suffered a Heart Attack While Skiing with Her Family
WHAT: The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women® event, celebrates the national movement focused on women’s heart health. The event will feature networking, a silent purseonality auction; where each item is reflective of the individual or company donating the purse package.
The event will proceed with lunch and a program. The program includes an introduction from presenting sponsor, Stormont Vail Health, and Kelly Kleiner’s survivor story. She’s a local wife, mother, sister and friend who suffered a massive heart attack while skiing with her family. Kelly’s story reminds us how important warning signs are, and how family history matters. The program will also include the keynote from event chair and Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Quality Officer with Stormont Vail Health, Dr. Sri Donepudi.
Topeka’s Go Red for Women event is one of the American Heart Association’s signature events. It is nationally sponsored by CVS Health and locally by Stormont Vail Health.

WHY: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of one in three women. It is the No. 1 killer, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined. Cardiovascular diseases, which includes stroke, claim the life of a woman about every 80 seconds. But about 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented.
The movement has become the trusted, passionate and relevant force for change to eradicate heart disease and stroke. Go Red for Women provides a platform for women and their families to lead healthier lives and drive collective action for community transformation. This event is more than wearing red, it’s about heart health for all women.
