Florence Crittenton Services Awarded $90,000 in Kansas Community Tax Credits for 2019-20

Florence Crittenton Services of Topeka was one of 17 state organizations – of 39 who applied – to be awarded state tax credits for its donors from the Department of Commerce for 2019 and 2020.

The 501©3 nonprofit agency now has the ability to distribute $90,000 in state tax credits to donors who give at least $250 to support a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Faculty (PRTF) remodel project. The program works by allowing donors to receive 50 percent of their donation back as a state tax credit. Any donor (individual or business) who lives and/or works in Kansas and is subject to income tax is eligible for the credits.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity not only for donors, but also for the agency because it allows us to give back to those who are choosing to support us,” said CEO Dana Schoffelman.

The idea is simple. A donor (individual, corporation, bank, etc.) donates at least $250 and then receives a 50 percent state tax credit when they file -- in addition to being allowed to deduct the other 50 percent should they itemize. If they file with the standard deduction, they will not receive the deduction but the 50 percent credit still applies.

For more information on how you or others can take advantage of the credits, contact Florence Crittenton Services development director Mike Norris at miken@flocritkansas.org or 785-917-3869.
