Gastroenterologist Karthik Ragunathan, M.D., Joins Stormont Vail Health
When he was young, Dr. Ragunathan’s grandmother became ill and his father had wished that someone in their family would be a physician to better explain to them what was happening. This is what first motivated Dr. Ragunathan to become a physician. As he progressed through school he found that he enjoyed science courses and his interest grew. Gastroenterologists perform many types of procedures and this allows a specialist to be involved in many different procedures. This is what drew Dr. Ragunathan into becoming a gastroenterologist.
“I hope to educate my patients in what is going on and what they need to do to become well,” Dr. Ragunathan said. “Involving them in their care is what allows them to succeed in their recovery.”
Dr. Ragunathan received his medical degree from Madras Medical College, Chennai, India, in 2011. He then completed an internal medicine residency in 2016 at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria, Illinois and finished his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship in 2019 at State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University, Brooklyn, New York.
When not in the clinic, Dr. Ragunathan likes to watch sports, play tennis and enjoys traveling. He has been to many different countries and enjoys visiting national parks.
