Stormont Vail Foundation to host 19th Annual Golf Tournament
(Topeka, Kansas., Sept. 9, 2019) – The Stormont Vail Foundation will host its 19th annual Big Hearts Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 16, at Topeka Country Club. The tournament has already raised more than $260,000 in sponsorships, gifts and registrations.
The golf tournament will have an 8 a.m. morning flight and 1 p.m. afternoon flight, with a dinner and awards ceremony following the tournament. There are 246 registered players for the event.
Proceeds from the tournament will go toward the purchase of Stormont Vail Health’s first Cotton O’Neil Mobile Clinic, which will expand access to care for patients in underserved areas including neighborhoods in Topeka and rural communities in Stormont Vail’s region.
The mobile clinic will make stops at churches, community centers and other locations that serve the elderly and vulnerable populations. The visits will be on a regular schedule, allowing patients to plan for care. Services will include regular wellness exams, non-emergency health concerns, routine monitoring of chronic conditions, post-surgical visits and vaccinations for children.
This year’s honorary tournament chairs are Rocky and Debbie Taylor. The presenting sponsors are Hospital Assistance Program and Konica Minolta, with Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer and the Lockton Companies serving as title sponsors.
“Individual patient health, as well as community health, will benefit because of this new access to care,” said Deb Yocum, vice president, clinic operations, with Stormont Vail. “We anticipate seeing both new patients looking for a medical home and existing patients who may find it difficult to keep appointments because of transportation, scheduling or other difficulties.”
